Shuffleboard
We have a very active club! The courts were installed in the 1990s and the number of people making good use of them has grown steadily! This growth was in-part due to an influx of Canadian Snowbirds during the early 2000s. This year we have more than 100 active shufflers that are supported by a group of volunteers who do a fantastic job of organizing, maintaining equipment, keeping the scores of league play, creating schedules and participating in a wide variety of different sessions that include:
* Open/walk-up: November and December Monday - Friday, at 9:30am regardless of competency level. These sessions are fun-filled and a good time to learn new skills and practice rusty ones.
-No advance sign up is required. Sign in (daily) early as there are 32 available slots
* Mixed (men & women) Leagues: play starts in early January and finishes in March. Singles and doubles both play on Tuesday mornings. These leagues are a LITTLE competitive, but it's all in good fun.
-Sign up starts in November and continues until the slots are all full.
* Couples league plays in the evenings (either Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday). This league is more social and intended for couples to play together. Approximately 96 folks usually play over the three evenings cuz it's really fun!
-Sign up starts in November and continues until the slots are all full.
* Mixed Traveling Team: Now this group is competitive! They take on other parks in the area and will travel to Sarasota for a good game. There is a traveling trophy with our park's name on it for nine (9) consecutive years!
-Sign up starts in November and continues until the slots are all full.
* Tournament play is both fun and competitive! In December, every year for the last seven (7) years our park has had a US vs. CA tournament. Everybody wears clothes and accessories to promote their country and the day is filled with fun and friendly (very!) rivalry! Flags fly, jokes are shared, and at the end of the three games a winner is declared! The winning country gets their beer bottle on the top of the resident trophy! Then there's a celebration!
-Sign up starts in November and continues until the slots are all full.
* Scores are kept of the league play throughout the ten (10) weeks, season winners in the several leagues are determined and awards are given! That means there is a PARTY! We have a potluck banquet with beverages, group photos and gold, silver and bronze medal are awarded to the best of the best!
*Lessons: In the spirit of good sportsmanship and fun, our park's best shufflers offer their time and expertise and volunteer to provide assistance to anyone of any skill level. There are also instructional videos available for loan.
-Ask anyone at the open/walk-up sessions for assistance.

The annual CAN/USA tournament went without a hitch! The weather was cool enough to keep us awake and breezy enough to keep the bugs and debris moving! For the THIRD year in succession the USA team earned the honor of top beer bottle on the trophy! It was a great fun day and the beer, wine and pretzels afterward watered down the defeat!
It's shuffleboard time! The official 2017-18 season can't begin until the courts are clean and all spruced up! And NOBODY can do that with more care, attention, and FUN than the folks that shuffle! Wash, wipe, sand, polish, rub and especially LAUGH!
