Some years ago, Jim Wallace decided the thing to do would be help the helpless, at holiday time. Filling shoeboxes with the little things in life that mean so much was his idea. Jim and Donna began by putting toiletries, socks, notepads, pens, playing cards, small toys, and cosmetic items into shoe boxes, wrapping them up in pretty paper, then taking them to a homeless shelter. Friends and neighbors joined in over the years and the number of shoe boxes grew and grew. This year, 2017, more than 90 shoe boxes were assembled and wrapped by volunteers at our park. They will be delivered to homeless shelters in our county for distribution to those in need.
