Autumn 2019
WELCOME TO HARBOR LAKES
We are the members of the Harbor Lakes Neighborhood Watch and we want to welcome you to this wonderful park. We hope you grow to love this park as much as we do.
The Harbor Lakes Neighborhood Watch is a group of 20 plus volunteers who patrol our streets on a regular basis, throughout the day, to be the extra “eyes and ears” for the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
Harbor Lakes has historically been a low crime area and we would like to keep it that way. We have a crime report given to park residents by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Dept. at our weekly coffee/ donuts information session on the 4th Tuesday of each month, followed by an open membership meeting at 9:00am.
Please come and visit with us at our next meeting to hear all about our Neighborhood Watch program and how you can help.
You can visit us at the Harbor Lakes website at harborlakes.weebly.com.
Sincerely
Ed Sterling chairman

Harbor Lakes is into the third year since becoming a Neighborhood Watch Community. What a tremendous difference it has made to our park!
We receive email updates on scams and alerts from the Sheriff’s office and monthly visits from a Sheriff’s Office Deputy. They have provided services such as vehicle key tag, golf cart and bicycle registrations. We have our own Ken Baus who is a Sheriff’s Office Volunteer and a full time resident of Harbor Lakes. Ken does many patrols through the park in his official Sheriff’s truck, which just might deter would-be criminals.
Our own Peggy Yoder started “Coppers for Cops” which raises money for needy school children to “Shop with a Cop” at Christmas season. She passes out red solo cups, and asks people to save up pennies throughout the year and put them in a bucket located in the park office. This past Christmas, $400 was given to the program to sponsor four children.
We currently operate with 21 watch volunteers who display “PATROL” signs on their golf carts or vehicles and some wear patrol vests as they bike or walk around the park. In the summer off season, Donna Wallace acts as Captain and organizes meetings with full time residents. Good effort by all those involved! THANK YOU!!!

The Neighbourhood Watch was established here at Harbor Lakes in early 2016, with the help and co-operation of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and the Harbor Lakes Owners Association (now Harbor Lakes Residents' Association). Currently at 18 members strong, regular park patrols are performed to ensure that any suspicious activity is reported. Some patrols are done on golf carts, in cars, on bicycles or on foot. The constant visibility of members on patrol throughout the year is a positive deterrent to criminal activity.
A deputy from the Sheriff's Office participates once per month at the Tuesday morning coffee meeting in the club house in order to update residents of incidents in and around the park. The deputy also encourages residents to take measures to protect themselves, lock up their homes and vehicles, and report any suspicious activity.
It is of utmost importance that everyone travelling through the park obey the speed and stop signs, ride bikes on the right side and walk on the left side of the road.
Anyone interested in becoming a member is encouraged to apply.
The Sheriff's office is also offering a free Citizens Police Academy seminar that is open to anyone interested. Printed information is available by contacting the number below.
